Lorraine Greenwald, Ph.D.

Dean International Education and Programs
Farmingdale State College

Dr. Lorraine Greenwald is Dean of International Education and Programs at Farmingdale State College. She is the Senior International Officer of the campus, and as such, is tasked with the internationalization of the campus and to create a globally competent student body that understands the interconnectedness of technology, applied science, business, culture and society on an international scale.  By promoting global citizenship among students, faculty and staff through engagement at the local, national and international levels, the goal is to harness the skills, experiences and diversity of our students, faculty and staff to position Farmingdale State College as a leader in global education on Long Island and within the SUNY System.

In 2015, Lorraine was awarded the William H. Fulbright International Administrators award to travel to France to develop bilateral programs of educational exchange between the United States and France.  To enhance the students’ academic, social and residential experiences, Lorraine works in concert with Deans, Chairs, Faculty and administrators to embed global engagement in all aspects of curricula and campus life. Over the past few years, Lorraine has been forging long-term partnerships with educational institutions, governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations in Brazil, Chile, China, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Scotland, and Spain.  She supports students, negotiates agreements, and assesses and manages risk for all incoming and outgoing international programs.

Lorraine passionately volunteers for SBPLI and FIRST Robotics.   She was invited to judge the FIRST Robotics Competition for high school students in 2004, and was immediately awed by the incredible energy and enthusiasm of the students, mentors and other volunteers.  Since that day, she has judged or been Judge Advisor for the FIRST Robotics Championships every season, and has been Judge Advisor for the SBPLI Regional competition for the past ten years.

Lorraine serves on the Development Council for SBPLI's FIRST Robotics Competition, and is a member of AIEA-Association of International Education Administrators. She is a former Advisor for Moxxie Network Foundation and former board member of Women Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI).  She possesses a distinctive blend of experience in both industry and academia, and has a lifelong love of learning.  She holds a bachelor degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University, an MBA in International Business and Finance from Stern’s Graduate School of Business at New York University, a second Master’s degree in Operation Research and a doctorate in Computational Applied Mathematics, both from Stony Brook University. Dr. Greenwald has been at Farmingdale State College for almost 20 years. She was a professor in Computer Programming and Information Systems, served as Chair for the Computer Systems Department, and was Dean for the School of Business from 2006 to 2012.
